Post Bank officials charged for Abuse of Office

The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court of Uganda has charged 8 Post Bank officials with cases of abuse of office. 

During the High Court session sitting at Kololo yesterday and presided over by Chief Magistrate, Pamela Ocaya Lamunu, the officials, including Bank Managing Director, Stephen Mukweli, were accused of causing financial loss of nearly Shs.1.9 billion to the bank. The suspects, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

President Museveni to Partners “Idea of sanctions is Cowardly,”

BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE President Yoweri Museveni has described the idea of sanctions by external forces as ‘cowardly’ and said leaders of the East and West met and agreed on peaceful competitions rather than sanctions.

“Why put sanctions? When somebody is wrong, leave him; they will fail by their own mistakes. When you put sanctions on them, that means you are not sure of them. I appeal for the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe,” he said.

President Museveni urges SFC Soldiers to Internalize Gospel of Army

President Yoweri Museveni who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, has re-emphasized the need for Officers and men of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to be patriotic, appreciate and internalize fully the meaning of patriotism. 

The President was yesterday interfacing with Officers and men of the Special Forces Command (SFC) at 10 Marines Battalion Headquarters in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.

Japan Contributes US$ 7.5 Million to Support Efforts Towards Refugees and host Communities in Uganda

JOINT PRESS RELEASE

KAMPALA (16 April 2019) - The Government of Japan has announced a contribution of US$  7.5 million to the United Nations to support refugees and host communities in Uganda over a period of one year from March 2019 to March 2020. The support will go to five UN agencies including; the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Office for Project Service (UNOPS).

CID Interrogates Post Bank MD over Mismanaging Funds

The Managing Director of Post Bank, Uganda, Mr. Stephen Mukweli, along with other senior officials the institution, have appeared at Kibuli Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (CIID) Headquarters in Kampala, for interrogation by the Police, allegedly for mismanaging the Bank’s funds.

Mr. Mukweli Stephen, who appeared with his lawyer, Allan Tusiime, interfaced with Police Officers for over five hours yesterday (Friday 12th April 2019).
