President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this evening returned to Uganda from Serbia.
While in Serbia, President Museveni was seen off by the country's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Ivica Dacic at Nikola Tesla Airport- Belgrade. Present during departure were Uganda’s Ambassador to Serbia, H.E Elizabeth Paula Napeyok and the Minister of State for Animal Industry, Hon. Bright Rwamirama.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this afternoon received the Foreign Affairs Minister of Japan, Mr. Hayashi Yoshimasa with his delegation at State house, Entebbe.
The discussion centered on how Japan can support Uganda specifically on value addition, by encouraging Japanese investors to set up in Uganda, as opposed to importing raw materials which keeps Africa and Uganda stunted despite having natural deposits capable of catapulting the economies.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his call to stop the exportation of raw materials, saying that Uganda loses a lot of money annually due to such economic undertaking.
He instead advised Ugandans and foreign investors to instead work towards adding value to the country's products in order to help the country achieve the much-desired socio-economic transformation agenda.
H.E The President advises timber dealers to convert timber into furniture then export it to countries without trees.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed his ban on the exportation of unprocessed timber in Uganda.
“I said nobody should export timber which is unprocessed. So if you are a furniture maker, that is what you want. Keep the timber and make the furniture here. So, if you want to export, you export the furniture not the timber,” President Museveni said.
President Museveni has said the country cannot be prosperous if it keeps experiencing cases of insecurity.
According to the President, whereas prosperity of Uganda and Africa entails getting each person or family involved in the production of goods and services, strategic security is key to enable this.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has promised to resolve the issue of unfair competition between foreign and local manufacturers.
The move, according to the President, is aimed at supporting more local producers to be able to supply raw materials in industries and finished products to the market.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon companies from the West to interest themselves in investing in Africa especially in process manufacturing rather than focusing on importing raw materials from Africa which has kept the continent backward.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday met a delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan led by His Excellency Ulvi Mehdiyev, the Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
H.E Mehdiyev is also the chairman of Azerbaijan Service and Assessment Network (ASAN) which is a state agency for public services to citizens of Azerbaijan.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni continues to emphasize regional integration among African states in order to create a bigger market for businesses on the continent to thrive.
