STATE HOUSE, ENTEBBE: President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with the outgoing Japan Ambassador to Uganda Kameda Kazuaki who paid him a courtesy call to bid him farewell as he concludes of his tour of duty in Uganda.

During the meeting that was attended by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in-charge of International Affairs Henry Okello Oryem at State House Entebbe yesterday, the President said that Kazuaki’s stay in Uganda has a record of achievements out of good bilateral relations between the two countries. 

Japan has supported Uganda’s infrastructure development including the construction of the cable-stay bridge across the Nile River, Upgrading of Atiak-Nimule Road which will contribute to promoting economic activities between Uganda and South Sudan, the Kampala Flyover Construction and Road Upgrading Project, the Bujagali Interconnection Project and the improvement of Queensway power Substation among others.                          Uganda procured a fleet of road equipment from Japan that has helped build the country’s capacity to maintain its road infrastructure.

The Japanese outgoing envoy Kameda Kazuaki expressed his gratitude to the President for the support rendered to him in the course of his work. He applauded the cooperation he had with the ministers and the respective government agencies.

Last month, Amb. Kameda signed notes with the Ministry of Finance providing Uganda with a US$3.8million grant under the Economic and Social Development Programme.

The funds are to help the Ministry of Health procure ambulances, hospital beds and other medical equipment to address the COVID-19 challenges.

Kameda Kazuaki was accompanied by the Japanese Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Horii Mizumoto.
