President Museveni Contributes Shs.50 million to Maddu Church

President Yoweri Museveni took off time today from his busy schedule of wealth and job creation sensitization tour of the Rwenzori Sub-Region in Western Uganda, to pray with the Christians of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish, Maddu, Gomba District in the Central Region of Uganda. The Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana, Rt. Rev. Anthony Zzziwa, hosted the President and his wife.

The President told Christians who turned up for Mass that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has historical attachment to some churches in the country adding that he will always keep in touch with them.

“There are churches and mosques that have historical attachment with the NRM Government and so checking on them once in a while is in order,” he said.

During the Mass that was also attended by Church of Uganda Diocesan Bishop of Central Buganda, Rt. Rev. Michael Lubowa, among others, President Museveni expressed happiness to be with the people of Maddu saying that he will also visit other religious institutions attached to the NRM government such as Bukalammuli in Mityana, Kyakwanzi, Kasana-Luwero, Kilema Church of Uganda in Luwero and some mosques among other religious institutions that have strong historical roots with the National Resistance Movement Government. 

He commended Christians of St. Charles Lwanga Parish for utilizing properly the contributions to the Parish Church to the appreciable level that it is now on. 

“Iam happy that the work we started here is progressing on well,” he noted.

He emphasized the need for people to engage in commercial agriculture to create wealth adding that the only way to address their challenges is to abandon the traditional way of doing things and embrace the modern commercial farming mode in order to get income for their families.

President Museveni contributed Shs.50 million in cash towards the construction of St. Charles Lwanga Parish Hall and pledged more support to the project.

Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese asked Christians to work hard to fight poverty. He saluted the efforts of the President with regard to wealth creation campaign wealth creation saying that Kiyinda-Mityana  Diocese is engaged in a number of development activities whose aim is to uplift the standard of living of the people in the area.

St. Charles Lwanga Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Elinewo Lukwago thanked President Museveni for the support towards the construction of the church to the level it is now on.
