PRESIDENT MUSEVENI LAUNCHES 346KM OIL ROADS, TIPS ON FASTER COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION

Tuesday, January 25, 2022

President Yoweri Museveni has strongly advised the people of Bunyoro on individual and family household income as a route to community as well as national transformation.

President Museveni tasked leaders at all levels to strategically sensitise the masses on household incomes if they are to defeat poverty.

"Leaders must be specific. When doing business, they have to first know the average land holding per household then advise the people accordingly,” he said.

The President was today speaking during the commissioning of the Oil roads in Hoima City.

Museveni commissioned the 111 km upgraded Hoima-Butiaba-Wanseko road as well as the 235 km Kigumba - Bulima- Kabwoya- Kyenjonjo as priority national roads that selected for upgrading from gravel to bitumen standard under Government’s 10-year Rolling Road Sector Development Programme (RSDP).

The President emphasised that local people should be guided on the four-acre model for those with small land acreage while those with big land holding can go for extensive agriculture.

He noted that while infrastructure development is good, people will not eat roads.

“In whatever you do, know that what is for all of us is good but what is for your family is more important,” he noted.

Commenting on roads in Hoima City and Bunyoro in general, the President clarified that not all roads are Oil roads, highlighting Hoima-Kyenjojo, Mubende-Kakumiro, Kafu-Kampala among others as roads that were planned earlier.

He directed the Prime minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, and all leaders in the area to handle land matters in the sub-region, including helping people in fencing, demarcation and acquisition of land titles. He added that even when still on customary land, people should have a right over their land.

He saluted the partnership between Uganda and African Development Bank (ADB) that over saw the project completed.

Prime Minister Nabbanja saluted the President for the development not only in Hoima but Uganda as a whole. She pledged her total support as far as monitoring and implementing government programmes is concerned.

Finance Minister, Hon. Matia Kasaija, commended the President for the infrastructure development in Bunyoro sub-region. He asked the people to work hard to benefit from the roads by engaging in commercial agriculture.

The function was attended by senior government officials as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) from the area.
