President Museveni warns, COVID-19 Getting Worse

MBARARA CITY: President Yoweri Museveni who is the NRM Presidential flag bearer has urged leaders and Ugandans in general to strictly follow the Ministry of Healths Standard Operating Procedures in the fight against COVID-19 including wearing masks while in public, washing hands with soap and water, sanitizing and social distancing warning that COVI-19 is deadly and getting worse. 

Candidate Museveni while addressing Ministers, Members of Parliament, NRM flag bearers and delegates noted that if other candidates were following what he was doing as regards the guidelines issued to contain the spread of COVID-19, people wouldn’t be dying.

“Those who are mobilizing people in crowds during this pandemic of COVID-19 are enemies,” he said.

Uganda has now registered 22,499 toatal cases with 9,175 recoveries and 206 deaths according to the Ministry of Health.

He advised politicians to use radios and televisions for mobilization to spread their messages to the masses but also protect them from the deadly pandemic.

Candidate Museveni today started his campaign trail in Greater Ankole sub-region where leaders of the 6 districts of the region praised him for the development programs extended to their districts by the NRM government.

Leaders from the districts of Mbarara, Mbarara city, Ibanda, Isingiro, Kazo and Kiruhura in their memorandum read this afternoon by the Minister of State for Animal Industry and MP Isingiro North Constituency Hon. Bright Rwamirama Boma ground in Mbarara City, highly commended President Museveni and the NRM government for granting Mbarara a city status, the good roads now, traversing the whole of Greater Ankole region citing Kikagate-Kafunjo road, Isingiro-Rakai road and Mbarara to Rakai road among many others.

They also praised President Museveni for proper handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, improved health services in their districts, the Kakyera water project in Kiruhura district and many programs involving the youth and women in money generating activities as well as electricity.

The leaders vowed to ensure that NRM wins the forthcoming elections by over 90 %.

The 2nd NRM Vice Chairman Western region Hon. Chris Baryomusi revealed that Western Region has remained hard for the opposition to penetrate and NRM will have the upper hand in the elections.

“By the time NRM took over power Uganda was like a patient on oxygen, but now things have changed, there is peace, stability and development,” he said.

President Museveni informed the gathering at length the root causes of why Africa and Uganda lagged behind in terms of development pointing out that it was the bad politics of identity that destroyed the continent including Uganda.

He added that their student group noticed this anomaly early and started the struggle that culminated into the liberation of this country in 1986.

“In 1986,Uganda was the 4th nation with the largest number of its citizens living in neighboring countries as refugees as a result of bad politics,” he noted.

Mr. Museveni said the wisdom used by the Movement government of rejecting sectarianism in favor of interest and needs of the people brought Uganda back to its feet.

The correct policies adopted attracted investors who are today paying taxes that have helped the government to do a lot of things like the development of infrastructure. He cited the road from Ishaka –Kagamba- Kitagata to Ntungamo, the road from Ishaka- Kasese whose rehabilitation work is ongoing and many others that are being done using Ugandan money from taxes paid by investors.

The President asked leaders to encourage wanainchi to get involved in the money economy by engaging in modern commercial ‘calculated’ modern agro-production. 

The Deputy Secretary General NRM Hon. Richard Todwong told delegates that in all meetings the NRM presidential flag bearer has attended, leaders in those regions have in their memoranda showed their appreciation to President Museveni for his good leadership therefore endorsing their determination to ensure that candidate Museveni wins the forthcoming elections.
