SFC forces Rally Community for Public Hygiene in Entebbe

ENTEBBE: The Elite Special Forces Command (SFC) forces have today on the eve of the 39th Anniversary celebrations of 'Tarehe Sita' embarked on community general cleaning exercise in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso district. The event that is part of the highlights of marking the anniversary is aimed at awaking people to observe public hygiene in their community.

Colonel Moses Mpora who represented the SFC Commander Gen. James Birungi led the cleaning exercise all around Kigungu fishing village mainly on major spots of Kigungu Whites Fathers Catholic Church, Uganda Fish Processors and Exporters Association Premises, Brother Amans Medical Centre and Ebenezer Medical Centre roads networks. Other areas that were also cleaned included Kitooro and the entire Entebbe Municipal town.

Tarehe Sita, which is a UPDF Army annual event will be celebrated tomorrow in the district of Nakaseke under the theme: "Consolidating the UPDF Strategic Partnership With the People to Guard the Gains of Liberation."

Talking to the media after the exercise, Colonel Mpora said the cleaning exercise around the community is a symbol that binds the national army with its people through community interactions. 

"The people should emulate the forces by example and excel in general cleanliness in their surroundings. Together we can do this", he said.

The SFC acting PRO Major Frank Mulema observed that the act of general cleanliness is embedded in the UPDF ideological line. 

"It also enriches the relationship between the people and the forces being pro-people army with restoration of oneness", he said.

An independent view from one of residents from Kigungu village Senyonga Steven, 68 years old who has lived in the area for 49 years commended the forces initiative calling upon fellow wananchi to maintain the area with good sanitation and hygiene.

The event was characterized with various medical tests and diagnoses of HIV/AIDS and counseling, testing for blood pressure and sugar levels, blood donation, vaccinating against Tetanus and cervix cancer, malaria fever tests, distributing mosquito nets among other clinical services.

The days' activities were crowned with a friendly football match between SFC football team playing against Wananchi team that scored one goal to zero, at Ministry of Works play-ground in Entebbe township. The football match was preceded by SFC boxing exercise.
