Post Bank officials charged for Abuse of Office

The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court of Uganda has charged 8 Post Bank officials with cases of abuse of office. 

During the High Court session sitting at Kololo yesterday and presided over by Chief Magistrate, Pamela Ocaya Lamunu, the officials, including Bank Managing Director, Stephen Mukweli, were accused of causing financial loss of nearly Shs.1.9 billion to the bank. The suspects, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

President Museveni to Partners “Idea of sanctions is Cowardly,”

BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE President Yoweri Museveni has described the idea of sanctions by external forces as ‘cowardly’ and said leaders of the East and West met and agreed on peaceful competitions rather than sanctions.

“Why put sanctions? When somebody is wrong, leave him; they will fail by their own mistakes. When you put sanctions on them, that means you are not sure of them. I appeal for the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe,” he said.

President Museveni urges SFC Soldiers to Internalize Gospel of Army

President Yoweri Museveni who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, has re-emphasized the need for Officers and men of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to be patriotic, appreciate and internalize fully the meaning of patriotism. 

The President was yesterday interfacing with Officers and men of the Special Forces Command (SFC) at 10 Marines Battalion Headquarters in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.

CID Interrogates Post Bank MD over Mismanaging Funds

The Managing Director of Post Bank, Uganda, Mr. Stephen Mukweli, along with other senior officials the institution, have appeared at Kibuli Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (CIID) Headquarters in Kampala, for interrogation by the Police, allegedly for mismanaging the Bank’s funds.

Mr. Mukweli Stephen, who appeared with his lawyer, Allan Tusiime, interfaced with Police Officers for over five hours yesterday (Friday 12th April 2019).

President Museveni launches National Task Force on Industrial Revolution

President Yoweri Museveni has inaugurated a team of experts to guide the country on the 4th Industrial Revolution Technologies.
During the ceremony that took place this evening at State House, Entebbe, and witnessed by Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, among other, the President cautioned the team to take great care integrating the revolution well for the benefit of the people of Uganda
“The advance of science is the primer of all social change. In order to use it well, you must integrate it well,“ he said.

Press Statement on Post Bank

On Friday 5th April 2019, following credible information, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit acting under Article 99 (4) of the Constitution of Uganda, in liaison with the Criminal Investigation Directorate acting under Article 120 (3) (a) and the Office of the Auditor General acting under Article 163 (3), carried out a special investigation on Post Bank Uganda.

 

“Use Wazalendo loans wisely” – Gen. Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Armed Forces, has urged members of the UPDF’s WAZALENDO Savings and Cooperative Society, to use their loans wisely by constructing rentals in their areas and other income generating activities.

“When you borrow money, you should use it for the construction of rentals near your trading centre and build a personal house when you are about to retire,” he advised.

Nine Government officials in Lango arrested on Corruption Allegations

Nine Government Officers from the Lango Sub-Region have been arrested on allegations of corruption, diversion of government funds and embezzlement, among other issues. 

The suspects from Dokolo District include the Acting Finance Officer, Alex Owlom, District Engineer, Thomas Codeos, Sector Works Accountant, Henry Ajwang and the Acting District Internal Auditor, Alfred Ongom.
