WORLD POPULATION DAY PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kampala, Uganda - July 8, 2025. Uganda will join the rest of the world to commemorate World Population Day (WD) on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Busaana Town Council Grounds in Kayunga District, under the theme:
"Promoting Population Health and Well-being through the Parish Development
Model (PDM)."
This year's theme underscores the Government's commitment to uplift the 33% of households still engaged in subsistence agriculture into the money economy.
At the heart of this transformation is the Parish Development Model, a vehicle for delivering services and inclusive development at the grassroots level.
The theme aligns with the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV), which is the first of three plans aimed at implementing Uganda's Tenfold Growth Strategy.
This strategy aims to expand Uganda's GDP from USD 53.7 billion in FY2023/24 to USD 500 billion by 2040.
As part of this year's commemorations, several community-oriented activities are being undertaken across Kayunga District, including:
• A Regional Leaders' Dialogue on July 10, 2025, at Katikomu Hotel, involving 17 local governments;
• Community health outreaches, including cervical cancer screening, family planning services, and health camps;
• Distribution of critical medical supplies: 15 delivery beds, 5 incubators,
12 stethoscopes, 200 mama kits, and gloves;
Environmental conservation through the planting of 20,000 trees;
• Training girls in reusable sanitary pad making and donation of 10 sewing machines;
• Provision of 21 desktop computers to selected schools;
• Solar system installations at Kanjuki SS and Busaana SS;
Water tanks installation at Kangulumira UMEA P/S, Busaale P/S, and New Hope P/S;

Sports and education competitions, including a bicycle race, football and netball tournaments, and a secondary school debate.
The event is expected to be graced by His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, as Guest of Honour. The President will also commission the Kayunga-Baale-Galiraya-Kasokwe Road, a major infrastructure development set to improve connectivity and economic opportunities in Kayunga District.
The National Planning Authority invites all Ugandans to join the celebrations on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Busaana Town Council Grounds in Kayunga District and rally behind efforts to promote population health and development from the grassroots up.
