President orders arrest of Policemen for assaulting Pregnant Woman

KAMPALA: The Police have arrested two of their colleagues and a member of a village defence unit who reportedly beat up a pregnant woman they accused of flouting orders against crowding in bars and public spaces. 

The arrest followed a directive by President Museveni today (Saturday) after he received reports of the alleged beating and torture of Ms Mercy Nakate. 

President Receives 570m from UBA to boost COVID19 Fight

ENTEBBE, STATE HOUSE: President Museveni has today received a cheque of Shs 570million (approximately US$150,000) from United Bank of Africa (UBA) presented to him by the CEO of UBA, Mr. Johnson Agereyo, as support to help combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda. 

In his brief remarks, Mr. Johnson noted that their action was also a call for the private sector to support government’s efforts to curb the spread of corona virus.

President to NRM women, “Promote patriotism, embrace ICT”

NYONDO, MBALE DISTRICT: President Yoweri Museveni who is also the National Chairman of the NRM Party has urged women to promote patriotism and fight tribalism to help transform their communities.

The President, who was yesterday officiating at the closure of the NRM National Women’s league training, said tribalism failed past regimes and should not be tolerated. The one-week training was held at St John Bosco PTC Nyondo, in Bungokho South Constituency in Mbale district.
